INITIAL ORAL EXAMINATION Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting of existing tooth restorations and existing areas of concern/ decay, periodontal probing, prophylaxis (cleaning), polishing of teeth, and an oral cancer screening. We will also take x-rays, which includes the full mouth series (FMX) or panoramic x-ray for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth. These x-rays allow the dentist to see decay between the teeth, in the chewing surfaces, along with the ability to see under and around the teeth in the bone. All of these tools allow us to understand your specific needs and render the best treatment possible. Will will discuss any diagnosis and treatment recomendations with you and answer any questions you may have.
FILLINGS Our office uses a resin composite or white filling material in most of our restorations. This material is similar to your natural tooth color.
DENTAL IMPLANTS We work in conjunction with an oral surgeon to replace missing teeth using implants. Implants can be used to permanently replace one or more missing teeth. We also create implant supported dentures (removable prosthesis) for the edentulous patient.
ROOT CANALS We perform root canals on most anterior and premolar teeth. Molars (or back teeth) that need root canal treatment are referred to a local specialist.
CROWNS/BRIDGES Bridges and crowns are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth by a dentist. Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover or "cap" a damaged tooth. Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if you’re missing one or more teeth. They are cemented to natural teeth surrounding the space where the tooth once stood.
PERIODONTAL TREATMENT You should have a standard cleaning at least twice a year. A standard cleaning includes a prophy (basic cleaning) and polishing. This removes any calculus and plaque buildup you may have accumulated. Any surface stains can be removed at this time. Some people have periodontal issues, including gingivitis, gum disease, bone loss around the teeth, and loose or mobile teeth. These situations require more than just a standard cleaning; they require periodontal therapy. A treatment plan will be made according to your specific needs to restore your mouth to a healthy situation. Treatment is individual and can vary greatly. Usually periodontal therapy requires a deeper cleaning called scaling and root planing. Sometimes scaling and root planing is done over a few appointments and may require an anesthetic.
REMOVABLE DENTAL PROSTHESIS For missing teeth, we can make dentures or removable partials for you. We also do some denture repairs.
MOUTH GUARDS Whether you are an athlete or casual sports participant, you should wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, a bite guard will help reduce symptoms of TMD. We custom make mouth guards in both soft and hard materials.
EXTRACTIONS Extractions are done to remove hurting or broken teeth. Some extractions, depending on root formation, extent of decay, or health issues of the patient can be referred to a local oral surgeon.
